A family member of a popular female idol has reportedly been arrested on charges of sexually assaulting a female streamer.

According to Channel A’s report on April 16, KST, the Gangnam Police Station in Seoul received a report of indecent assault from a female streamer and arrested a man in his 30s, identified as Mr. A, on the spot.

The streamer told the police that Mr. A had purchased a “dinner date voucher” worth around ₩3.00 million KRW (about $2,030 USD) to have dinner with her. After the two had drinks together at a restaurant in Gangnam, the man took her home, promising that he would not initiate any sexual contact. However, Mr. A then attempted to sexually assault her.

Mr. A has reportedly denied the charges, claiming that his physical contact with the woman was not coerced. The police plan to question Mr. A and verify the facts, keeping the possibility of an arrest warrant on the table.

Though the identities of neither party have been reported on yet, some media outlets posted blurred photos of the man in question and the possible idol linked to him. This has led to widespread speculations.

  • “After I searched the image, it said it’s Jisoo’s brother.”
  • “Whether it’s a Girls’ Generation member’s older brother or anyone else—how could someone who has a younger sister even entertain the thought of committing a sexual crime against another woman? It’s essentially dragging their own sister’s name through the mud.”
  • “If a dinner date costs 3 million won, isn’t it just common sense that sex is included?”
  • “Wow, quite a criminal record. Last year, he got caught secretly filming himself having sex and passing the footage around to his friends. Why is it that so many older brothers of top-tier female celebrities turn out to be sex offenders like this?”
  • “A 3-million-won dining voucher? That’s interesting.”

However, these identities are purely speculations at this point and have not been substantiated by any credible news source.
