SUNGAI PETANI, Nov 3 — The loud booms heard by residents around the town yesterday were part of a training exercise conducted by the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) based here, according to Kuala Muda District Police Chief ACP Hanyan Ramlan.
He said the police received complaints and inquiries from the public who reported hearing loud explosion-like sounds between 9am and 10am yesterday.
“I would like to inform that the sounds came from the ATM base, and the training being conducted is under control.
“The public is advised to remain calm and refrain from making unverified speculations, especially on social media, to avoid causing confusion and public anxiety,” he said in a media statement.
He added that similar loud sounds can be expected today between 10am and noon during the continuation of the ATM exercise. — Bernama
