For a period that is meant to be all about celebration, the last week of December sure can be stressful sometimes. It actually takes quite a lot of effort to be in full-time party mode, especially if you are one of the people organizing the party. That takes a lot of forethought and a great sense of timing that is more difficult to cultivate than you might think. Even those who do not have to do much more than turn up can find themselves exhausted, what with all the socializing, eating, drinking, and merrymaking on a loop. And that's if the celebrations go well. There is every chance that somebody is going to turn up in a bad mood and ruin them.

Anyway, we are nearly at the finish line when it comes to the big winter holidays, and those who have been engaging in any kind of celebrating are likely feeling the post-Christmas malaise. It is as good a reason as any to indulge in the pursuit of some mindless scrolling, with the upside of having slightly less guilt about it than other times of the year. There may be more productive ways to fill our time, but we don't need to think about them right now.
