KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 11 — The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a thunderstorm warning for several parts of the country, including the Klang Valley, with heavy rain, strong winds and lightning expected until 11am today.
The alert covers districts in Selangor such as Sabak Bernam, Kuala Selangor, Klang, Petaling, Kuala Langat and Sepang, as well as both the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya.
Residents in the Klang Valley have been advised to stay indoors and exercise caution as the severe weather may cause flash floods, fallen trees and traffic disruptions.
MetMalaysia said the warning was issued after signs indicated thunderstorms with rainfall intensity exceeding 20 millimetres per hour were either occurring or expected to persist for more than an hour.
It added that thunderstorm warnings are short-term alerts valid for up to six hours for each issuance.
Elsewhere, affected areas include parts of Perak, Negeri Sembilan and Sarawak, where heavy rain and strong winds are also expected this morning.
The department issued the warning at 9am today and said it will continue to monitor weather developments closely.
