SUBANG JAYA, Nov 22 — The Selangor government yesterday, through Yayasan MBI in collaboration with the Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ), launched the Selangor State-level Hawkers & Small Traders Day 2025, an annual initiative aimed at strengthening the role of small traders as key drivers of the state’s economy.

The two-day event brings together more than 200 micro and small entrepreneurs from across Selangor, with participation from 12 local authorities, government agencies, and strategic partners. It is expected to attract over 15,000 visitors, making it one of the state’s largest platforms for community economic development.

Under the theme “Hawkers & Small Traders as Drivers of Selangor’s Digital Economy,” the event highlights the importance of technology adoption, digital transactions, and adaptability for small traders in the modern market.

The launch was officiated by Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari , who reiterated the state government’s commitment to building a sustainable and inclusive entrepreneurial ecosystem in line with digital economy growth.

The programme also spotlights initiatives from the Selangor Budget 2026, including AGROPLATS Biaya Plus-i, a micro-financing scheme offering up to RM10,000 at 0% profit for up to seven years.

The scheme will benefit 600 PLATS entrepreneurs.

Activities at the two-day event include:

•    Digital entrepreneur exhibitions and sales

•    Screening of the Selangor Digital Hawkers montage

•    Ehsan Rahmah sales

•    Remote-controlled helicopter showcase

•    PLATS Kitchen with celebrities

•    Junior Chef competition

•    Selangor Hawkers Appreciation Awards 2025 by Yayasan MBI

•    Collaborative activities with Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM)

•    Cultural performances and lucky draws

The event also serves as a hub for information on assistance schemes, financing, and training offered by various state agencies.

Yayasan MBI said it will continue to empower hawkers and small traders through digital initiatives, inter-agency collaborations, and high-impact programmes.
