  • I snapped on my annoying co-worker in our work group chat and I've honestly never felt better

Felt like sharing my catharsis with everyone because I feel like I've accomplished what many could not

  • So I work at a bar/coffee shop type place and while everyone who works here is great, they all have pros and cons in terms of being coworkers. One of our bartenders, Josh, is a prime example of that. He's a great

  • worker and gets things done, but on the flip side he's that one person you work with that combines their social life with their work life, so they tend to get pretty annoying after awhile. It's mostly harmless, but at times it can get aggravating.

  • Case in point, we have a group chat that we use as a sort of bulletin board for work related stuff, and Josh is CONSTANTLY sending messages in it. He replies to everyone whether it concerns him or not, will randomly send messages about his day, and most of all..

  • will crack jokes about whatever it is we're discussing regardless if he even knows what we're talking about or not. We usually do go back and forth with each other about random stuff so it's not entirely out of place, but when our managers are telling us important stuff

  • and it gets buried by dozens of messages from Josh saying dumb sh and not even contributing anything to the discussion it can get old. I've never said anything about it

  • because it's not my place to say anything, I just work here. But it was slowly chipping away at my nerves and knew that eventually I'd have to put my foot down, and that day came.

An employee whose patience has been tested by his annoying coworker.

  • So yesterday, we had a super busy day and were running low on inventory, so my manager was messaging the chat about having someone go back and count our remaining products so they knew what to order more of. Being the only person

  • on hand to do it, I immediately went back and started counting for them, sending messages individually per item. so they could log everything. Josh, on his day off mind you.. chimes in the conversation with his usual quips about everything we're talking about without even knowing

  • A man looking at his cell phone and laughing

Annoying coworker texts non-sequiturs in the work group chat, despite the fact that urgent business conversations are taking place.

  • anything we're talking about. I was trying my hardest to ignore it, thinking he'd take the hint and let us have our conversation in peace, but he just kept going. Not only was it pushing back my messages,

  • but it was starting to distract me and mess with my focus.. so I just went off and said "for f sake Josh, shut up and let me do my job" and he immediately stopped responding and I just kept on with helping my manager like nothing happened. Nobody

  • said anything to me about it either, so I could only assume I said what everyone else was thinking. I'd been biting my tongue for way too long, I'm really not the confrontational type either.. but I gotta admit that it was relieving. I sort of

  • feel bad because I like him for the most part and don't like to be an a hole to people I work with, I was just getting really irritated with him and didn't feel like holding back any longer. As of right now he still hasn't messaged the chat, and I'm sure we'll eventually have to sort things out but I'm not too worried about it.

  • But anyway, I feel like we've all wanted to tell a coworker to shut up at least once in our lives, so just felt like sharing some inspiration for anyone dealing with someone similar

  • since several comments pointed this out, I'd like to clarify that we don't typically do inventory via text message, it was a spur-of-the-moment thing where our manager was buying us more product, wanted to know what we needed more of, and texted

  • the group because they didn't know who was currently there The conversation was basically "we got 2 of these left, and gonna need more of these" and not like a formal count and didn't feel like explaining all that. Like I said, we were extremely busy that day which

  • was why it was impromptu like that, and also why I was short with Josh in the first place. We're just a small-time place and we all know each other outside of work, so it's not like this is going on between a bunch of people in suits. It's also worth pointing out that him and I are 2 dudes in our

  • 30's who've known each other a long time, so it wasn't like I was going off on someone I barely knew or who'd take it to heart. He knows how sh is, we've butted heads in the past but drop it the next day. Same things gonna happen with this I only felt like sharing it because it made me realize

  • we've all wanted to snap on a co worker at least once in our adult lives, so I just wanted to say that anything is possible. I dunno, just felt the need to clarify without responding to each comment
