Don’t be deceived by RM2,500 deposit scam involving unofficial Kampung Jelutong SPK house offers, warns Jepak rep

BINTULU, Sept 6 — The public have been warned against falling victim to unofficial offers to purchase houses in the Kampung Jelutong Village Expansion Scheme (SPK) in Jepak.

Jepak assemblyman Iskandar Turkee said he had been informed about certain parties offering housing units in the area through unofficial channels, with prospective buyers reportedly being asked to pay a RM2,500 deposit.

He added the parties allegedly used registration forms and location maps to convince prospective buyers that the offers were genuine.

“I urge members of the public not to be easily deceived by such offers. For your own safety, do not make any payments, submit personal documents, or provide sensitive information before verifying the offer with the relevant authorities,” he said in a statement.

Iskandar stressed that the public should first obtain official confirmation before taking any action or making payments in connection with housing offers there.

“Those who have received such offers or possess information related to the matter can contact ASP Douglas of the Commercial Crime Investigation Division, Bintulu district police headquarters at 019-812 9892 for verification and further information,” he said.

He also urged the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with the authorities to help curb scams and prevent others from falling victim.

The housing project is implemented by the Bintulu Development Authority, and as of April 30 this year, a total of 111 units have been completed. — The Borneo Post
