  • Real estate agent handing the house keys

The superintendent hands you the keys to your new apartment, which you have to pay for, even though you work for the apartment complex.

  • I'm so tired of "benefits" that I laughed at my interviewer today.

Interviewed for a maintenance position at an apartment complex, asked if they provide housing or a rent discount? The interviewer perked up and said not only do we allow you to apply for an apartment with us after 6 months of employment we'll

  • take the rent right out of your paychecks for you what a great benefit. I couldn't help it just busted out laughing and told her that's not a benefit that's just paying you rent.

  • Low angle photo of high-rise apartment building

An apartment complex that allows employees to live there, if they apply after 6 months and pay in full.

  • not_the_troll No that was the right reaction. Not sure what exactly are they trying to sell you lol.

  • darkwalker1221 OP Yea not even a discount on the rent just full price and we might let you live here

  • elsoloojo In reality they will charge you an application fee and then deny you and apartment because your income is less than 3x rent.

  • lostspectre Or you get it and get evicted when their wages can't keep up with the rent increases

  • mangosteentx Or laid off and evict notice in the same day....

  • A close-up of a piece of paper with a notice of eviction on it

  • subcow Is there a company store where I purchase all of my food and clothing with credits I earned by working?

  • TurnkeyLurker Yes, but you have to work for 6 months before you can buy company-branded food or clothing. And you can only work while wearing company- branded clothing.

  • NimdokBennyandAM If it lowered taxable income, maybe, but this is just autopay, lol.

  • discipleofchrist6 pre-tax seems to be the implication, and I don't see why they wouldn't be able to do that. And paying rent with pre-tax income is a pretty massive perk

  • cjh42689 This is not legal unless living there is a condition of employment

  • Adventurous-Depth984 Wait... live in supers aren't comped an apartment anymore?

  • Appropriate_Acadia35 I take it he was talking more of a tech role and not a supervisor role. With that said, largely, no. Been in the industry for 15 years and my company now gives a 40% discount that tops out at a $800 monthly benefit. The community I'm with now has rents upwards of 5k monthly. So the benefit is negated with anything over 2k.

  • annabellefromtexas So if you didn't work for them, you could apply for an apartment today, but if you work for them, you have to wait 6 months to apply?
