  • Should I quit my €150k job to pursue Roblox development full-time?

I'm 29 years old, single, no kids, and no mortgage. I currently earn around €150,000 per year and have about €400,000 invested in the stock market.

  • A while ago, I created a Roblox game that unexpectedly did quite well, it reached over 410,000 visits within 1.5 months. That experience made me seriously consider whether I could turn this into something bigger.

  • Now I'm wondering if it makes sense to quit my job and pursue Roblox development full-time.

  • On one hand, I have financial stability and relatively low obligations, which makes this feel like a good time to take a risk. On the other hand, my current income is strong, and game success can be unpredictable.

  • Cobalt_88 No. Traffic and successful monetization are different things.

  • uniqueusername649 Until he makes money with it and has a growth track record, this seems like a terrible idea.

  • torodonn What does 410k visits do for you? How much revenue are you able to generate from 410k visits? Most of the popular Roblox games measure their visits in the billions and tens of billions of visits and even then, anecdotally, it's not always easy to be profitable outside of the Top 20. Platform cuts are high,

  • competition is high, kids are fickle. Tens of millions, literally 100x what you have now, would be enough to cover a full time salary, maybe, but not put you back up to 150k Euro. Honestly, just do it as a side hustle until you're pretty sure you can sustain a living doing it.

  • PeachyGlowMochi Agree on this. The competition on Roblox is fierce and revenue can be tricky. Stay safe with the stable job while you build a more solid foundation for your game.

  • colossalmickey I can't believe someone with this level of decision- making acumen is on €150k a year.

  • NumeOriginal11 Because he is good on developing the product, not selling it.

  • Key-Difference-2265 if that game made more money than your job for a whole year, you can then quit your job.

  • Huge-Sun5296 Opportunity cost, he could've one source of passive income (thus double his income), I don't suggest quitting haha

  • Capable_Piano832 Is it a smart idea? No. Is it a valid idea? Sure. You're at the best age to be taking risks and that life phase won't last forever. Depending on your industry, returning to a $150k/yr job after a year's experiment might be quite simple. Important to ask yourself if you're genuinely really into Roblox development though or just bored in your life and looking to make ANY change.
