When a kid older than 18 ends up still living with their parents in their childhood bedroom, a lot of lines tend to blur or get crossed. Many things that were relatively okay if they happened are no longer okay, now that the child is no longer a child, and many parents don't really flip that switch and start acting like their kid is actually a grown adult.
Confusing? It's also confusing for a lot of parents. Luckily, we have the perfect example for you of what a parent should not do.
The 19-year-old son in the story below lives with his mom. Every day when he leaves for work, he closes his bedroom door, and every time he comes back, he sees the door wide open. It wasn't long before he started suspecting his mom goes into his room and looks through his belongings while he is away.
Since his mom kept denying the accusations, the son decided to find a way to get proof. He installed a camera in his bedroom, which alerts him live whenever it detects movement. The son wasn't surprised that on the first day he set it up, he caught his mom going through his drawers, closet, and taking stuff from his desk.
When the son returned home and confronted his mom with the proof, she claimed that she had every right to go into her son's room in her own home. Now, setting aside her going through his belongings, which is not okay in any age, if he were 13, we might have agreed that she had business going into her son's bedroom. But that is a 19-year-old, grown adult we are talking about. A man who has every right to his privacy, and every right to be upset when his mom takes it away.
When the confrontation between the two came to an abrupt end, Mom told the entire family what happened, and they took her side. The son realized that he would never be able to change his mom's way, and decided to move out…
